Normally on Mac book air model to remove EFI pass lock and iCloud locks need to use a hot air blower to remove the chip and then read in programmer as you have removed it from the motherboard. You need to have expert soldering skills to do it that way.

Note if disconnect battery from mac book then will need to supply 3.3V to SPI Flash chip before can read or write to the chip.
With the clip you can work smart and fast and not get your hands dirty and no need to take big risks and spend long time to open all the unit and take out the logic board. All that is a thing of the past now.
MBA Clip Pinout Configuration
Pin 1 of the chip (marked with a small dot) which is CS (Chip Select)
Pin 2 of the chip which is MISO (Master In Slave Out)
Pin 3 of the chip which is WP (Write Protect) No need to Connect this the Clip but best to connect to Power
Pin 4 of the chip which is GND (Ground)
Pin 5 of the chip which is MOSI (Master Out Slave In)
Pin 6 of the chip which is SCLK (Clock Speed)
Pin 7 of the chip which is HOLD (Hold) No need to Connect this the Clip but best to connect to Power
Pin 8 of the chip which is VCC (Positive Supply Voltage) (3.3v)
For models A1502 - A1466 - A1465 - A1425 with the switch to the left.
For models A1398 - A1369 - A1370 switch to the right.
Use the 3.3v for the WP and the HOLD from pin 8 or from external Power Source
